NetherRealm Studios have been teasing that they have been working on something new after finishing with the development of post-release content for Mortal Kombat 11, but after it was suggested that it was a third chapter of DC Comics Injustice, the reality is that it is a new Mortal Kombat game.

In its earnings report conference with investors, Warner Bros. via CEO Davi Zaslav (via VGC) confirmed that NetherRealm Studios have been actively developing Mortal Kombat 12 with the aim to release the game this very year.

“There’s lots more to come, including the highly anticipated Mortal Kombat 12 and Suicide Squad: Kill the Justice League, games also set for release this year with ambitious launch projections.”

There has been noise in the industry that NetherReal Studio was indeed developing Injustice 3 but due the instability of WB Games parent company, Warner Bros. and its existential crisis provoked by previous owner AT&T not knowing what it was doing and forced to sell most stock to Discovery.

It was suggested since last year that Warner Bros. and Discovery will have fragmented the studios under the WB Games umbrella but that doesn’t appear to have happened yet.
