The Nintendo and Ubisoft tag team brought a unique and original gaming collaboration between Mario and Rabidds, but for Ubisoft mainly, the timing was not right to continue pushing further the new franchise of Mario + Rabbids.
Ubisoft co-founder Yves Guillemot now believes that he should have listened to Nintendo about having a second Mario + Rabbids game in the same generation.
The also Ubisoft CEO acknowledged to GameIndustry.biz, that Nintendo suggested to wait at least on the japanese’s next-gen hardware to work in another Mario + Rabbids game instead on launching a second game within the Nintendo Switch era that we now known as Mario + Rabbids: Sparks of Hope.
The regret is with full reasoning as the unexpected failure of the game reaching on holiday sales goals provoked some short and long-term effect on Ubisoft’s economics and led to the cancellation of some other games including the proposed Fortnite answer called Project Q.
Being fair with Ubisoft, maybe Guillemot felt confident as the originalMario + Rabbids game, Mario + Rabbids Kingdom Battle, has reached over 7.5 million copies sold in 2017.
