I resisted posting this rumor on my social media as I was expecting a reaction from Ubisoft and to respect (at least for once) my no-rumors for articles and indeed, Ubisoft did not disappoint about a certain sequel that was reportedly in development.
Yesterday, Video Game Chronicles reported that Ubisoft stopped the development of a Immortal Fenix Rising sequel as shocking as it sounds as the game gained its fans despite the troubled development of the original game.
The job was originally assigned to Ubisoft Quebec studio.
Late last night Ubisoft responded to the VGC report indicating:
“As part of our global strategy, we are redirecting and reallocating some creative teams and resources within the Quebec studio to other unannounced projects.
The expertise and technologies these teams developed will serve as an accelerator for the development of these key projects focused on our biggest brands. We have nothing further to share at this time.”
In the report, sources of VGC claimed that Ubisoft leadership ultimately decided to cancel it earlier this month due to perceived challenges around establishing the IP, taking also the roadmap for multiple Assassin’s Creed games that are in parallel development..
Ironically, there was an honest desire of Immortal Fenix Rising to be a big IP for the future, so I won't count out that this is the last that we heard of the franchise, maybe in the long term.
