Sony decided to say goodbye to July with a HELLO to a new Playstation 5 firmware that aims to be a massive update to the current Playstation console but before a massive launch, it is time for a new BETA.

Sony announced today that it will run a new BETA where selected users will be testing new features heading to the Playstation 5.

New accessibility features as Sony is pressing on with Playstation capacity on helping people with disability to  enjoy the fullest of gaming.

To enhance the experience, the Playstation 5 would be able to assign second controller to one account and this is basically an organic multiplayer experience for one player games for extra support and gaming enhancement and also, System UI Haptic Feedback

A welcomed new feature is the support for compatible Dolby Atmos-enabled audio device and this is basically the tool needed to have rich sounding environment for games that support Dolby Atmos technology along with Sony’s tempest 3D audio tech can now be used by Dolby Atmos Enable HDMI devices like Soundbars, TVs or home theaters.

Social Feature Enhancements:

  • Party UI update : You can now invite a player into a close party without automatically adding the player into the group or creating a new group. And you can send open or close party invasions to groups of people instead of individual players.
  • Share Screen Preview : When someone’s sharing their screen in a party that you can join, you’ll now see a preview image of their Share Screen, even before you enter the party.
  • Join Friends Game Sessions Easily : You can now easily see which of your friends are in an activity you can join under the [Friends] tab.
  • Game Hub tournaments tile : In the game hub, you can now see how many tournaments you’ve entered and the highest place you’ve achieved, as well as the start time for the next tournament.
  • React to messages with emojis.

Plus, Ease of Use features:

  • Search for games in your library
  • Game Help Improvements : Game help cards have been improved. In addition to in-progress activities, you can now see available, previously available, upcoming, and completed activities.
  • Discover new features : Now you can go to the discover tips page in settings and browse all the useful tips for getting the most out of your PS5.

Interestingly, there is an audience celebrating that beginning this next firmware, people will be able to mute the beep sound when you turn on the Playstation 5 control and I don’t get (and don’t want to) why this is an issue besides exposing yourself that you turned the console on early in the morning while your family is asleep.

Finally and NO LESS IMPORTANT, speedier M.2 MVNe SSD support was raised up to 8TG capacity and while the Playstation 5 already supports SSD up to 8T but,  M.2 MVNe types are currently supported up to 4TB.

As of the writing of this, Sony still has registration open for the BETA, but no end date and how much feedback they will need and process to have the firmware available for everybody, remains to be revealed.
