My take on the Stadia semi-surprising news is that this is another missed-hit in the career of Phil Harrison and Google main failure besides consistency, more enterprise thinking was TRYING to think what gamers needs/wants instead of DIRECTLY listening to gamers.
Game-as-a-service is the future and Google proved that it is possible, but better people needed to steer that ship.
This is not the final chapter of Stadia, but I get the feeling that the hey-day is gone and the next good season probably is a long ass time away from us as I don’t have doubts that Google might try to have traction for Stadia Pro and specially Founders Edition members.
And for the haters… This is NOT Stadia dying, repurposing a main goal of a project is normal when there are more opportunities and yes, consumers are no longer a constant hit and the terms used in the reports is just the coloring of the information.
About Stadia failing their user retention of 2021 by 25% are not bad numbers considering how many people said that “nobody was playing”, but I guess this is why Google ran an open feedback for consumers to express themselves.
I am eager to read/hear what Google had to say about this report.
