Seems that Ubisoft is not the only gaming company choosing WEIRD time to announce not so good news for gamers and surprisingly, Microsoft took a turn to announce changes on the Xbox Live Gold free claimable games offering.
Personally I had not received an official email as of the writing of this, but many Xbox gamers are sharing the content of an email being deployed since early morning:
From 1 October 2022, the monthly games provided to Xbox Game Pass Ultimate and Xbox Live Gold members via Games with Gold will no longer include Xbox 360 titles.
We have reached the limit of our ability to bring Xbox 360 games to the catalog; however, Games with Gold will continue to include exciting Xbox One titles and exclusive savings each month.
This will not impact any Xbox 360 games that you downloaded before October 2022. Any Xbox 360 titles that you redeem via Games with Gold before that time are yours to keep on your Xbox account, regardless of whether you continue your subscription.
Thank you for being a loyal member.
Team Xbox
Practically a self-explanatory and to make a direct comparison, Sony was the first one to purge Playstation 3's PS Plus offering so it really had been remarkable that Microsoft let a two gen old library to be kept alive.
Xbox Live Gold is a subscription that allows online multiplayer games within Xbox consoles and part of the features are free claimable games offered monthly and remains so until the subscription ends or gets canceled.
My immediate theory/conclusion is that Microsoft needs to stop the money-bruning that dealing with Xbox Live Gold live in parallel with Xbox Game Pass might be provoking.
