A finales de año, directivos de Microsoft le pidieron a Phil Spencer que verificará con la conglomerada su estatus luego de que Xbox públicamente cuestionara a Activision Blizzard sobre sus problemas de relaciones con sus empleados y comenzaron las discusiones de ofertas. Inicialmente Bobby Kotick y su grupo no estaban seguros de ser vendidos a Microsoft en un principio pero cedieron al notar que no había nadie de la industria capaz de mejorar la oferta de Microsoft y al cabo de dos semanas, Microsoft mostró más interés en hacer la compra-venta una realidad. Lo interesante del reporte es que Microsoft al parecer ya desde verano pasado buscaba dar con una mejor compra que inclusive eclipsa la de ZeniMax y Bethesda y dar estabilidad de usuarios.
