To say the least, I haven’t got the opportunity to upgrade my PC setup to have a proper full 1440P environment and future-proof approach and have been trying to do so in the past year and a half and I was reminded that THERE IS NEVER a good opportunity to buy a PC, neither low tier or high tier.
With this, I know that PC gamers that were once Playstation gamers for gamers that play every platform and have found it nice that Sony have Playstaiton games being launched on PC and of course, Returnal is next.
The once PS5 exclusive game is heading to PC as it was already confirmed at The Game Awards, but if this is not a placeholder, Steam already got us some stressing news and it is the required and recommended specs you need to have to play the game.
MINIMUM:
- OS: Windows 10 64-bit (version 1903)
- Processor: Intel Core i5-6400 (4 core 2.7GHz) AMD Ryzen 5 1500X (4 core 3.5GHz)
- Memory: 16 GB RAM
- Graphics: NVIDIA GeForce GTX 1060 (6 GB) AMD Radeon RX 580 (8 GB)
- Storage: 60 GB available space
- Additional Notes: SSD Recommended
RECOMMENDED:
- OS: Windows 10 64-bit (version 1903)
- Processor: Intel i7-8700 (6 core 3.7 GHz) AMD Ryzen 7 2700X (8 core 3.7 GHz)
- Memory: 32 GB RAM
- Graphics: NVIDIA RTX 2070 SUPER (8 GB) AMD RX 6700 XT (12 GB)
- Storage: 60 GB available space
If this is not a placeholder for Steam landing page for Returnal, it does worries me that we are just 2 years of this gaming generation, the ninth generation and with an average of 7 to 10 years of each generation of gaming, we are WAY TOO EARLY to game getting really stretchy about computing needs.
While some game already recommend around the 16GB of RAM which is my threshold for “normal to begin to be concerned”, the average remains 12GB of recommended setup but the main here is if gamers are able to harness that power by being able to buy such RAM cards and as we already seen in DDR5 realm that is taking a boost now thanks to AMD Zen 4 and 13th Gen Intel Core, but still no where economically accessible for the average PC player that could not or simply doesn’t see or need a computer for everything else besides gaming and typical office-type of work that doesn’t need anything beyond 8GB of RAM.
Maybe I am getting ahead of myself and yes, upgrade is historically inevitable but again, this “recommended spec” description seems to be too early for this generation in terms of power and cost for the end user.
