The name Neill Blomkamp may not resound in gaming but rather in movies and it is also beginning to not be uncommon of Hollywood personalities diving on gaming projects and this time, we probably see the next big Battle Royale.
Developer Gunzilla Games has announced his new project, working in hands with Neill Blomkamp, called Off The Grid as a next-generation battle royale with strong focus on narrative progression.
The game will have Blomkamp serving as Chief Visionary Office (kinda creative way of naming job positions though), Richard K. Morgan, writer of Altered Carbon as co-writer for the game and Timur Davidenko, former CRYtek developer and part of the CRYengine team working on game’s engine.
Each match will have 150 players fight across the same map in both PvP and PvE storyline missions: with that map changing in real time as certain things happen and players will have the freedom to control how the hard-boiled story unfolds, with each decision made directly impacting everyone’s gameplay.
Gunzilla Games looks to define what they called Battle Royale 2.0 having all the known formulas of the genre, but to build an evolving world designed to take on a life of its own, changing in unexpected ways each time a player rejoins the game and deep player progression.
Off The Grid will be launched for PC in 2023 and there was no mention if this game will transcend other platforms.
