I still remember how impressed I was with Sega Sammy, Sega’s parent company, on raising wages across all their workforce by 30% in part thanks to Sonic Frontiers performance and the urge from the Japanese government for companies to have their part against the inflation.

Unfortunately, there is so much that a company can hold and unfortunately Sega has confirmed its first round of layoff, for now concentrating on first party studio Relic Entertainment.

Relic Entertainment are the makers of Company of Heroes, co-developers of Age of Empires and Homeworld series and are based in Canada, which technically does not count as job loss in Japan.

It is unclear if Sega has more layoff rounds for the remainder of the year or if this is the only one scheduled, depending on how economics improves or gets worse.
