AMd announced two new sets of Chromebook centered processors with the Ryzen 5 7520C, Ryzen 3 7320C and Athlon Athlon Silver 7120C & Athlon Gold 7220C.
For more demanding processing with Chromebook, specially gaming centered Chromebooks, the Ryzen 5 7520C includes four cores, eight threads, and 15W TDP, with AMD Radeon 610M graphics with 2.8GHz and up to 4.3 boost frequency and meanwhile, the Ryzen 3 7320C shares the same spec while clocking at 2.4 GHz base with up to 4.1 GHz boost frequency.
AMD touts this newest Ryzen family members as a big improvement as it is claimed that the 7320C “delivers 1.6 times higher average performance across tested workloads” than previous generations of Ryzen-powered Chromebooks, as well as “up to 3.5 hours longer battery life” than competitors in its category.
With the more affordable Athlon, Athlon Silver 7120C and Athlon Gold 7220C both have two cores, and two and four threads respectively. Both have a base frequency of 2.4GHz; the Silver boosts up to 3.5GHz, the Gold up to 3.7 while be advised that maybe the “affordable” aspect is because they are based on the Zen 2 architecture, so if you are looking for updated hardware, this might be a strong consideration.
The newest Athlon chips can have a battery last 19.5 hours of battery life.
Confirmed Chromebook with the latest Ryzen/Athlon are the Asus Chromebook CM34 Flip releasing in Q2 2023 and while not acknowledged yet, the upcoming Dell Latitude Chromebook 3445 could be the other one with more joining later this year.
