Acknowledging that the whole year 1 of Cyberpunk 2077 ruined so many future projects related to the game’s post-launch and some notable casualties were the multiplayer mode and maybe a couple of more FREE expansions.

Unfortunately, life has other plans and CD Projekt Red needed to refocus to correct the wrongs and practically carry on with what’s left and here comes Phantom Liberty expansion.

In an interview with Jason Schreier as gaming reporter for Bloomberg, Gabe Amatangelo, Phantom Liberty Director at CD Projekt Red, claims that the Phantom Liberty is not just a game/story expansion itself.

The expansion will be preceded by a main update for Cyberpunk 2077 itself that is not limited to be a placeholder for everything included on Phantom Liberty, but a overhaul of the game and had Phantom Liberty Director calling the improvements as the state of how Cyberpunk 2077 was envisioned to launch in December 2020.

The update was mentioned to be a culmination of almost 3 years of work and while it doesn’t erase history and the rocky Year 1 of Cyberpunk 2077, it will be a proper way to have Cyberpunk 2077 to be replayable with major balancing and fixes on the game day-to-day operation.

Phantom Liberty will take place a little while after the end of Cyberpunk 2077 having V getting granted a citizenship to New United States Of America, to later, be assigned to an incognito mission to protect the NUSA president along with NUSA Solomon Reed (Idris Elba) meanwhile, V and Johnny Silverhand engram (Keanu Reeves) are still struggling of the seconds effects of The Relic permanently implanted on V is killing them both as V still quest on how to reverse the effects.

Project Orion is officially the sequel of Cyberpunk 2077 and Amatangelo is already the Director

CD Projekt Red is so confident with Amatangelo, that he will be directing the sequel to Cyberpunk 2077 as he confirmed to Jason Schreier,

Back in October 2022, CD Projekt Red announced a series of new gaming projects including Project Orion which was a few times slated to be a spinoff or sequel to Cyberpunk 2077.

With this affirmation, I can officially say that it is a proper sequel and a main change and the end of an era for the RED Engine as an in-house graphic and gaming engine, CD Projekt Red also will have the development of the game under the Unreal Engine 5.

Unfortunately, we are at the waiting game as Amatangelo confirmed that development is still years away and maybe Phantom Liberty is indeed, the first and only expansion of Cyberpunk 2077.
