To start the week with the bang, CD Projekt Red surprises the gaming community by not only announcing a new The Witcher game, but also a surprising association with none other than Epic Games that at storefront, they are competitors of GOG (where CD Projekt Red hold major stakes).
Wanting to jumpstart the week, CD Projekt Red has officially announced that it has begun working on a brand new The Witcher title and could be a spinoff instead of "The Witcher 4", as it was labeled “a new saga”.
The other surprising thing about the announcement is the fact that it has been confirmed that it will be developed with Unreal Engine 5 and not CDPR’s in-house RED Engine.
Regarding of RED Engine, the native polish studio said that it will be still in use and in development as they are already working on Cyberpunk 2077’s first expansion but, it is a little difficult to see how “the use of Unreal Engine 5 in the new Witcher game and future games will benefit RED Engine” as they claim in their announcement.
My 25 cents would say that RED Engine will be Cyberpunk 2077’s sandbox and probably be the final game ever produced and maintained, of course if CDPR makes a more concrete update about RED Engine’s future.
