It has been quite a noise from Sega Sammy, the parent company of Sega, who are currently running a Super Game Project and while some expected a new and original game, the reality is that this is another blast from the past as the nostalgic market is profitable.
According to Bloomberg, the Super Game Project is in reality a sub-set of three projects and it is bringing back Jet Set Radio and Crazy Taxi as a current-gen reboot.
The classics from the Sega Dreamcast, Sega’ last attempt as a direct competitor of Nintendo and Sony, were brought once as ported version with Jet Set Radio reversion landing on original Xbox, while Crazy Taxi (originally an Arcade from 1999 and then launched to Sega Dreamcast) was ported to Playstation 2, Nintendo Gamecube and Xbox back in 2001 and finally on PC by 2002.
In the case of Crazy Taxi, reportedly that we are already a year into development and its release window is still a few years away and the same team is working on Jet Set Radio and an unnamed FPS.
For the unnamed FPS game, Sega aims to have it as a response to Fortnite using their exact revenue program and added to the mix…yes you guessed it…a blockchain curated and financed via NFT for in-game content.
While the investment and how advanced things are, it was warned that the new games are in the early stages of creation and could still be canceled if Sega loses confidence.
