This is the week of D23, the equivalent of CES/Wrestlemania/Superbowl/World Series/<insert your major event here> for everything Disney and serves as stage for Disney to announce for all its business including television, movies, amusement park, etc.

While Disney is no stranger to gaming and while gaming has not been strong since the closure of the Disney Infinity IP and hence, the whole legendary Disney Interactive division, this year’s got my attention.

The following are the main announcements of D23 2022 from a gaming perspective…

Disney Jr’s Mickey and Friends will be debuting in their original videogame

One of the first announcements was Disney Illusion Island arriving exclusively for the Nintendo Switch sometime in 2023.

In this game Micke, Minnie, Donald and Goofy arrive on an island and in a co-op scheme, players need to travel in platformer levels to achieve and having Mickey and friends helps to a local tribe.

Next AR product by Naintic is Marvel World of Heroes

Disney announced that Niantic, the makers of Pokémon Go, are creating a proper Marvel AR experience with Marvel World of Heroes, and practically is taking your perspective and adding Marvel Superheroes in an augmented reality experience.

Skydance New Media lands a new Captain America and Black Panther original game

A few months ago I wrote about Skydance New Media, a studio founded by ex-Naughty Dog Amy Hennig and how its first grand project was an original Star Wars game.

Well, Marvel is the second hit and in D23, it was confirmed that an original game that features Captain America and Black Panther is in development.

Probably you are playing with Steve Rogers during the timeline of World War II, where he was battling against Hydra and it seems that there is much more in the story as in the trailer, Black Panther makes an interesting appearance.

Marvel's Midnight Suns Gets a New Release Date, Switch Version TBD

Marvel’s Midnight Suns now has a new release date of December 2, 2022, for Playstation 5, Xbox Series S/X and PC.

Unfortunately, Nintendo Switch is not part of the launch but a version is still in development.

A new Tron game

Tron: Identity was revealed to be in development by Bithell Games and follows Query, a “detective program tasked with solving the mystery of an unprecedented crime”, slated for a console and PC title for 2023.

A Free-To-Play card game with Marvel

A new game from the Marvel Universe is Marvel Snap, a free-to-play collectible card game that will include over 150 Marvel heroes and villains heading for Mobile and PC later this month.

Gargoyles will be remastered

The greatest afternoon cartoon for my late childhood and early teenage was indeed Gargoyles and I am amazed how I MISSED PLAYING THE GAME in the late 90’s, but now my newest opportunity is by 2023 as the follow-up to Disney Classic Games Collection, bound for consoles and PC.
