We knew that Razer had some new stuff in store and this past weekend, the company announced two new gadgets and one of them is the forthcoming new Cloud Gaming device called the Razor Edge 5G.
Finally we learned that the Razor Edge 5G is an Verizon exclusive device and while there will be a WiFi only variante.
Both versions share that they are powered by Snapdragon G3x Gen 1, which includes 3 Ghz octa-core Kryo CPU and an Adreno GPU, along with active cooling and six air vents. Razer says early benchmarking shows that the Snapdragon G3x Gen 1 delivers two to three times the speeds of typical mobile platforms, such as the Snapdragon 720G.
Currently this makes the Razer Edge the only available device with the named processor.
Physically, the Razer Edge will sport a Gorilla Glass 6.8-inch AMOLED screen with a refresh rate of 144Hz and a Full HD+ resolution of 2400 x 1080 and Razer claims is the only device with 87% more pixels than main competitors.
Taking a note from Nintendo Switch, The Razer Edge also has a joy-con like controllers that can be detached from the screen and can be used for instant 2 player experience and yes, the controllers are actually a pair of 2 Kishi Pro 2 controllers.
The Edge comes with 8GB of LPDDR5 RAM and 128GB of storage with 5000mAh and physically, it weighs only 400.8 or less than a pound.
Finally and as expected, Android will be the OS for the device but will be shipping with Android 12 with no indication when we can expect an Android 13 build for the device and obviously, a preinstalled client of Epic Games, Xbox Cloud Gaming and Nvidia GeForce Now preinstalled.
The Razor Edge can be preordered at $399 on Razer’s website but the Razer Edge 5G, which was ironically the focus, doesn’t have either price nor release date, but only marked as Verizon’s exclusive.
Normally, mobile versions of devices tend to be less cheaper than WiFi devices, so if the WiFi variant goes for $399, then you can imagine that the only way to take the device without overkilling your pocket is buying via a new Verizon line.
New generation of earbuds dedicated to gamers
Despite a new rollable screen for chroma keying your content and a new generation of kitty-like headphones for male and female, Razer presented the Hammerhead HyperSpeed earbuds.
The Hammerhead HyperSpeed earbuds feature Chroma RGB, active noise cancellation, Bluetooth 5.2 and 2.4GHz connectivity to minimize latency.
Razer claims the earbuds can last 30 hours of total battery life after full charge and using a charging case.
There will be a Hammerhead HyperSpeed variant for both PlayStation and Xbox, costing $150 and they will be available in November.
