I can count with the fingers of both hands how many of my friends and colleagues managed to play Overwatch 2 so far as of the writing of this and for those who had managed to enter the server to set things up for the new global reach of a Blizzard Account, found themselves in another layer of troubles.

In damage control after hoarding negative feedback, Blizzard is already reversing the Overwatch 2's requirement for a non-prepaid phone for most players.

Besides the long waiting queue to access the game servers, players had found themselves unable to activate the SMS Protection, a requirement to play the game and migrating old Overwatch accounts to the global Blizzard Account because they were flagged using a Prepaid Phone.

While it is true that Blizzard warned that SMS Protection will not accept some types of phone, it was emphasized that it was special use devices like VoIP phones so, you wouldn’t expect that having AT&T Prepaid, MetroPCS, T-Mobile Prepaid, Google Fi, etc., was so much trouble.

The applicable players that will not be required to have SMS Protection activated are Overwatch players that managed to play the original games and new players, first-timers and new accounts in general are still required to activate SMS Protection.

Let’s see how this plays out in the end.
