During the afternoon, it was rumored that Crystal Dynamics might separate sometime next week to address the future of Marvel’s Avengers and the surprising thing is that it was actually TODAY that an open letter came out on the official website.

Crystal Dynamics announced the End Of Life of Marvel’s Avengers will be in two phases, confirming that NO new content will be made to the game.

By March 31 2023, we will be receiving Update 2.8 that will bring a final balancing for the game to assure the game remains playable despite not receiving more content.

Also on that date, Credits will no longer be purchasable and all remaining Credit balances will be converted into in-game resources to aid ongoing adventures and the store will close.

Good news is that cosmetics will become FREE for everybody.

The second and critical date will be September 30th, 2023, the game will be retired form storefronts, including digital store in ALL platform and officially, Crystal Dynamics will no longer offer su;pport for the game despite that between MArch and September, occasional patches will be possible to ensure that the game remains as payable as possible for the foreseeable future.

Pretty much activities will be server-side administered and this includes the Red Room Takeover which will rotate every 2 weeks.

The first signs that something was wrong came reportedly since Brian Waggoner, its Lead Developer, leaving Crystal Dynamics mid 2022 and no replacement even at early 2023 let the speculation about focus shift began.

Since launch day in 2020, the game has been plagued with general bugs and online failure, including the unpopular decision of having the game not being cross-play nor cross-save and to make matters worse, Spider-man and its related activities being exclusive for the Playstaiton version was not universally well-received.

Unfortunately this also means that we will never see She-Hulk and Captain Marvel as development for their specific expansion was in the way and there was a rumor that Crystal Dynamics planned to re-work a scenario where you have Ultron as antagonist, which was the original plan in early development of the game.

During the initial minutes of the announcement, the official website of Marvel’s Avengers got such high traffic, that constant Error 502 and the announcement could be read after almost an hour after the news went public.
