Evidently, Naughty Dog have been on a virtual media tour thanks to the successful premium and Episode 2 of the television series adaptation of The Last Of Us on HBO and gaming speaking, Naughty Dog had something to say about it’s two main IPs.
Naughty Dog co-president Neil Druckmann in an interview with BuzzFeed discussing The Last Of Us TV Series, said that the Playstation Studios member has already moved on from Uncharted intellectual property and The Last Of Us Part III could not happen at all.
“All I could say is, at Naughty Dog we're very, very privileged that our publisher is Sony--which means Sony funds our games, supports us, and we're owned by Sony. They have supported us every step of the way to follow our passions--meaning that just because something is successful, people think there's all this pressure and we have to make a sequel. That's not the case.
For us, Uncharted was insanely successful--Uncharted 4 was one of our best-selling games--and we're able to put our final brushstroke on that story and say that we're done. We're moving on."
Many are not surprised of the fact that Uncharted 4: A Thief’s End was meant to put an ending of the main story and a sequel for the Uncharted movie was dependent on the performance itself which basically, with mixed reaction, is a long shot of happening.
For me, the surprise here is that even with the hype of The Last Of Us TV Series could not be enough to justify a Part III for Playstation 5 (Druckmann did not lose the opportunity to say that a TLOS multiplayer is in development).
But to be honest, I don't blame Naughty Dog wanting to experiment with a new original game, which has been rumored for a while that we are bound for an official announcement, maybe this year.
