Just when the first main esport FGC event already took place, Bandai NAmco decided that it was a right time to make some updates on Tekken 8, the first in the series to forgo Arcades & Game Rooms and go directly to console and while the game will be coming to Xbox Series S/X and PC, it appears that Playstation 5 will be the focus platform.
The previous, was a 36 minutes update from Bandai Namco featuring Tekken Producer Katsuhiro Harada who has become the face of the fighting franchise of the original Namco despite not being the creator and some things that we should be expecting of the 8th main entry.
The gross of the presentation was to showcase the gameplay mechanics, including its heat system, rage system, and recovery gauge.
The heat system and recovery gauge are the newest in-game mechanics and the heat system replaces the Rage Arts that debuted on Tekken 7 as part of the Rage mechanics introduced on Tekken 6 and is indicated by a blue glow. This blue glow will be in effect for about 10 seconds, but attacks (both on hit and block) will cause the timer to briefly pause.
With this, inputs for the Rage Art command have been made universal. No matter which character a player is using, the inputs are now down-forward and two punches.
The Heat System can be activated either through a Heat Burst or Heat Engager. A Heat Burst will trigger the Heat System on both hit and block, and will leave its user at advantageous frames in either scenario.
And as for the recovery gauge, while it is a new feature, but not exactly universal new mechanic as rg was kind of exclusive to the Tag Tournament and brought for the first time to a canon main title of Tekken.
Basically it is a mechanic that allows characters to regain portions of their lost health after attacking the opponent aggressively.
Finally and along with the gameplay reveal, Nina Williams was also announced as the next character and showcased some of her new movesets and combat systems in action.
Tekken 8 still has no release date as of the writing of this.
