While Mythical Quest serves as Apple TV+ first production based on the hassle of a game development under a sitcom format, it seems that Apple wanted to give gamers a proper biopic and it is Tetris, based on the legendary puzzle game.

Apple TV+’s Tetris is a biographical drama film directed by Jon S. Baird and written by Noah Pink. The film stars Taron Egerton and Toby Jones. Tetris will have its world premiere at SXSW Film Festival in March 2023, and is scheduled to be on March 31, 2023, by Apple TV+.

Taron Egerton plays Henk Rogers, the gaming entrepreneur who was instrumental in discovering Tetris and securing the console gaming rights, thus enabling its release on Nintendo’s then-revolutionary Game Boy handheld. To do so, he had to negotiate directly with the Soviet regime, since Communist law dictated that the game belonged to the people of the Soviet Union (read: the government) rather than Pajitnov himself. All sorts of Cold War skullduggery ensued.

The story is based on accounts by David Sheff’s book  Game Over which is a chronicle of the rise of Nintendo as a gaming company after various business stints.
