Well, there is a brand new update for the firmware of Playstation 3 and no, you are not reading wrong, the Playstation 3 or Sony’s 7th gaming generation fighter gains a new functionality or at least in technical speaking.
Many people were surprised to find out that Sony forwarded the firmware version 4.90 and it is an obligatory update as it will not let you log into the Playstation Network if you don’t run the update.
But as expected, the “This system software update improves system performance.” is the only thing that says in the changelog.
The Internet is already speculating that the reason behind this surprising update is to stop new methods of BIOS extraction for game emulation, which has been a constant ever since the first root or hacking of the PS3 a decade and a half ago.
This is the firsts update since 4.89 last year, but that update was just a soft sunset of PS3 as the console got disabled the ability to create PSN accounts and also several account management options.
