The Nintendo Switch has amazed people because of two things. One, it capitalized on the commodity and flexibility of being a hybrid of a console and a portable gaming device, much like the Wii U controller and unified the until 2016’s traditional console and portable that Nintendo was always being known.

And two, Nintendo actually had the Nintendo Switch not only as its main product in the past and current generation despite hardware’s BIG difference in comparison with current Playstation and Xbox offerings.

This without a doubt has raised some questions on when Nintendo can say enough and began to seriously talk about a Nintendo Switch successor.

Taking Q4 Fiscal Year 2023 earning results, I may suggest that Nintendo is purposely not ready to talk as the company revealed that now sold 125.62 million Switch consoles as of March 31, up from 122.5 million, but year-end console sales have declined by 22% and expect sell 15 million consoles during the current fiscal year ending March 31, 2024, which represents a further 16.5% decline, as Switch enters a significant slowdown during its seventh year on the market.

No mention of how the company could respond to this forecast, so no new hardware in plans.

Latest rumors about a Nintendo Switch "Pro" either were proven untrue or Nintendo just discarded the project in expectations that probably, the Cloud Gaming capacities of the Switch could leverage the survival on this 9th gaming generation.

For its consolidated results, Nintendo reported Revenue: ¥1,601,677b (approx. $12.031b) for the year, ¥306.499b (~$2.272b) of which was in the 4th quarter, both metrics at a decline respectively of 5.5% and 2% with Operating income: ¥503.925b (~$3.870b) for the year, ¥93.384b (~$692m) for Q4.

As for the software, Fire Emblem: Engage was the best seller of the group at 1.61m units, followed by Kirby's Return to Dream Land Deluxe at 1.46m and the surprise release of Metroid Prime Remastered at 1.09m. Bayonetta Origins: Cereza and the Lost Demon did not reach 1m units shipped in its time on sale.
