Many expected that Blizzard Entertainment would have chosen to be careful on next steps after a backtracking of some features that the game will now gain in parts, mainly the Hero Mode and now the unpleasant surprise is that story-driven missions are behind a paywall.

After taking part in the Xbox Game Showcase to confirm that Overwatch was gaining story-driven missions, Blizzard confirmed to The Verge that indeed, there will be a cost of $15 to access it.

In general and starting with the Invasion expansion, Overwatch 2 is still free-to-play, but proper story-driven story and pieces of what it was promised with Hero Mode behind a $15 wall but Blizzard offers you 3 story missions, a legendary skin for Sojourn, and $10 in Overwatch premium currency.

Adding to the insult for some, there’s also a premium bundle for $40, which will give you all mentioned above, legendary skins for Sojourn, Cassidy, and Kiriko, $20 of premium currency and access to the premium battle pass with 20 level skips.

The payment is a one-time only and remains your forever (until Blizzard replicate the idea of an Overwatch 3 succeeding Overwatch 2 and OV2 needs to be shutdown), but Blizzard did acknowledge that future story-driven missions are gonna cost.

Well…shoot…
