Someday, I am going to invest time to actually research a big problematic of the gaming industry in the 90’s and early 2000’s and their methods of storage that proved in losses as for the example, Square Enix CURRENTLY lost both Final Fantasy VII and VIII source code and had to rely on reverse engineering their respective PC version for all the relaunch and remasters.

Today we got ANOTHER ONE as Ubisoft probably suffered from the very same thing with the original Far Cry game.

Duke Nukem known moder, Vinícius Medeiros, announced that he found the source code of Far Cry, apparently ready to be compiled for PC, except that the game does not include the access including footage, sounds, etc.

Of course without the assets, compiling the game is pretty much a troubleshooting rather “arming” the game, but apparently it is possible that this will serve for future indy relaunch of Far Cry as graphic designer or even people that knows how to reverse engineering the PC version of the game can actually make a party of it.

As of the writing of this, Ubisoft has not reacted and it is known that the Internet Archive is NOT immune to DMCA so we have to see how long the source code remains public.

Far Cry is a 2004 first-person shooter game in association between developer Crytek and Ubisoft who retained the rights of the game.

The game is set up in a mysterious tropical archipelago, the game follows Jack Carver, a former American special operations forces operative, as he searches for the female journalist, Valerie Constantine, who accompanied him to the islands but went missing after their boat was destroyed by mercenaries. As Jack explores the islands, he begins to discover the horrific genetic experiments being conducted on the local wildlife and must confront the mad scientist behind them.
