We are awaiting news of Nintendo's next hardware, which estimates say that it will be April 2024 the earliest, where the Japanese veteran will be ready to tell us something. Now and unexpectedly, we got some news.
While not exactly saying “Nintendo Switch successor”, Nintendo has revealed some plans about ensuring that everyone can have a device whenever the new hardware is ready to launch and avoid scalpers as possible.
At their Shareholders Day, Nintendo via President Shuntaro Furukawa acknowledged that plans are already in the drawing board and a hardware requiring a Nintendo ID to prevent reselling or massive purchasing as a big alternative.
“With regard to resale measures when launching new hardware, we recognise that the most important thing is to first produce and ship in numbers that can meet customer demand.
We will then consider whether there are any other possible measures that can be taken.”
Backward compatibility with now the adding of Nintendo Switch
Another question was raised by investors and Furukawa was cautious in answering a question when gaming preservation and emulation is a big hot topic with Nintendo these days and people are not happy.
“We are always considering various things about the specifications of future hardware, but at this stage, I would like to refrain from making any specific comments about future hardware.
As for the sales style of Nintendo Switch software, there are different types like physical package software bought in stores, download versions of package software, and download-only software.
Many of our customers have been playing on the Nintendo Switch with download software or download-only software, and compared to previous game consoles, the ratio of digital sales has been increasing.
As a company, we would like to continue proposing unique gameplay through dedicated game consoles that integrate hardware and software in the future, so please look forward to it.”
I would not rest hoping that Nintendo will give backward compatibility games WITHOUT a paywall which since last generation, has been more than evident that this became part of gaming economics.
