It is not uncommon to have news from Google that particularly gets a yinyang feeling and two important events are happening regarding their entertainment effort to catch the attention of fans of movies and television series.
At one hand, Google has confirmed that Google Play Store will have the Movies & TV removed as a section for their digital store by May 2022 to favor the use of the overhauled Google TV which instead of being a revival of the classical Google TV, it is only Android TV with less Android and more Google (which it’s should not be taken as a bad thing).
Google immediately clarified that you can still use Play credit and Play gift cards for transactions within the app and all your purchases are still eligible for family sharing and Google Play Points. Plus, you can still view and request refunds for your TV app purchases on Google Play.
But it will be not surprising that this will be migrated over to Google TV.
On the other hand, and going to their streaming subsidiary YouTube, it was announced that all users can access over 4,000 of TV Series episodes and 1,500 full movies for free with expectations of commercial breaks.
TV series include Hell’s Kitchen, Andromeda, Heartland and movie collections include hits from Disney Warner Bros., Paramount Pictures, Lionsgate, FilmRise, and more.
I had been looking for anything that appears to be string attached on Premium or the paid sub YouTube TV, but apparently is only required to be in the United States and have a valid account with patience with the ads.
You may wonder with Sony really cracked the free TV ad market with Crackle and Roku going strong creating their own freely accessible content, why it took long for YouTube to decide what to do next after YouTube Originals failed as a big selling point for YouTube Premium.
