There were some remaining questions after Sony acquisition of Funimation & Crunchyroll and how ultimately both services will continue being owned by the same parent company.
Obviously, a fusion for them to become a “Super Saiya-jin-ed” Crunchyroll was not the only important change.
Crunchyroll probably didn’t wanted to start the week with some bad news but here it is and the anime streaming service announced that will no longer offer free ad-supported streaming for newly-released episodes, or in other words, ongoing series cannot be watch for free even waiting a few days after original japanese transmission.
The service’s changes are programmed to go into effect this spring, and to “replace it”, Crunchyroll plans to give a demo to a “seasonal sampler” that would include the first three episodes of each show in the sampler for free one week after their premiere.
Probably this will not be a good attempt from Sony to try to persuade people looking for well-known subs anime networks and we’ll see people's general reaction soon.
