It is with some sadness that I had to share about Athenascope, the popular AND FREE service that via an AI, you can have clips from live streams of popular multiplayers an Battle Royale games, will be shutting down.
Users have been receiving this email and also there is a copy at the main Athenascope’s Discord:
Tough announcement to make, but sending this out to let you all know we will be shutting off Athenascope highlights creation later today. Auto-import, manual import, and Windows client sessions will no longer be processed.
We will be leaving the site and mobile app up until Tuesday, April 5th so you have time to download all the clips and Showcases you wish to save. (Pro tip: if you have a ton you want to download, do it on the mobile app so you can multi-select. Join the Discord and check the announcements channel for the download link)
This has been (and will continue to be) a tough week for our team. We’ve loved working on this with you all and explored a number of options to prevent having to send this message. So a big thank you from our team for being such an incredible, helpful, and positive community. We would not have made it this far without your encouragement, enthusiasm, and ideas.
To sum things up:
- Athena is taking a well-deserved rest from watching hours and hours of “you’ve been eliminated” footage and highlights will no longer be processed from any sources as of later today
- The site and app will be up until Tuesday April 5th so you have time to download all your clips
To our great community members and the friends we’ve made along the way: thank you for being a part of this chapter. We learned a great deal from you, and what’s next will be even better for it. While the service may be shutting down, we like to think it will live on in the millions of hours of clips, Showcases, Squad Rounds, PvPs, and remixes you created with us. Thank you for your support - we are so grateful to have shared the journey with you.
So in other words, Athenascope will be functioning like normal until today March 30, 2022 and all content will be available to download until next tuesday April 5th and then it will be the hard goodbye.
Questions remains is what led to the project to be shutdown, which only requires to user accept watermark on AI’s processed highlights on the service (while raw clips the watermark is customizable and optional) and I guess making a good suggestion is that the team behind the service failed to assure fundings for operation continuity without charging users.
Thanks for everything Athenascope!
