We already knew that Geoff Keighley was pending on announcing the date and place for the 2022 The Game Awards edition and as expected, he did deliver and as the case of Summer Game Fest, Gaming special is going to theaters.

Geoff Keighley confirmed that The Game Awards 2022, the 9th edition, will be streamed live via official channels and selected co-streamers on Thursday December 8 and will be live from the Microsoft Theater in Los Angeles.

While the event would have in-person attendance (pending to see if it will be full house or limited quantities as per the pandemic allows to), The Game Awards will be available to watch in selected IMAX Theater.

For this year, a new category will be making its debut and it is Best Adaptation  and Best Adaptation will recognize creative work that authentically adapts video game intellectual property to other popular media, including but not limited to theatrical movies, streaming shows, podcasts, novels, and comic books.

If the custom does not change, we will be waiting for the date on which the categories open for the public to vote for the games and the different categories (once they are official) and remember…

As per The Game Awards FAQs, winners are determined by a blended vote between the voting jury (90%) and public fan voting (10%).

While it is difficult to predict nominees and winners, it is widely believed that Elden Ring will be nominated and is a strong contender to win the Game Of The Year category.
