If you thought that the NFT fever is over on the gaming scene, well, Square Enix does remind us that they are up for it, investing on creating their own blockchain to implement in future games so probably this will not be the end of NFT.
As part of an interview with Yahoo Japan, Square Enix current President, Yosuke Matsuda, insisted that Square Enix has plans to integrate NFT as part of its ecosystem, including in-game transactions.
In the future, we would like to try our hand at providing ‘autonomous game content’. Until now, in most games, we provided the content as a finished product and the players played that content.
However, there are a certain number of players in the world who want to contribute to making games more interesting, by creating new settings and ways of playing.
Playing careful as NFT is currently not in a friendly terms with video gamers fans in general, Matsuda indicates that Square Enix part of managing a blockchain with NFT, will make possible appeal on the play-to-earn type of games as he believes that games can be an on-going development along side with users and can be compensated.
All this reiterating that games that Square Enix launches are final products and not on-going development (ironically some inner studios such as Crystal Dynamics and Eidos cannot say the same thing).
In conclusion, if you thought that the 2022 welcoming letter from Square Enix was a past thing, evidently it is not.
