With many things going on for this year, the Japanese publisher and former Nintendo and Sony competitor Sega is taking the chance to release new hardware as Nintendo did after the SNES Mini with the Sega Mega Drive Mini 2.
A well kept secret from Sega and the Sega Mega Drive Mini 2 was officially announced today as we are jumpstarting the E3-less E3 season of 2022.
Early in the day, it was just a strong rumor but Sega decided to shut them off to control the narrative and we can expect the Mega Drive 2 to include some of the Mega CD (in America it was launched respectively as Sega Genesis 32X variant and Sega CD).
The list of game included for the new hardware is as follow:
- Silpheed (Mega CD)
- Shining Force CD (Mega CD)
- Sonic CD (Mega CD)
- Mansion of Hidden Souls (Mega CD)
- Popful Mail (Mega CD)
- Virtua Racing (Mega Drive)
- Bonanza Bros (Mega Drive)
- Shining in the Darkness (Mega Drive)
- Thunder Force IV (Mega Drive)
- Magical Taruruto (Mega Drive)
- Fantasy Zone (new Mega Drive port)
While Sega did not waste time in confirming that the Mega Drive Mini 2 will be released in October with an equivalent of $75 as cost, there was no mention of a North, Central and South American market anytime soon.
