These are difficult times when you have a pandemic still affecting and creating a "new normal" to the world, along with another disease that if not contained could turn into a pandemic within a pandemic and to make things worse… Russia's invasion of Ukraine… All this unfortunately has not been oblivious to the gaming community.
A proof? Beginning in August, the Meta Oculus Quest 2 will go from $300 to $400 for the 128GB model, and from $400 to $500 for the 256GB variant.
Meta justified the move as a way to continue investing in moving the VR industry forward for the long term, claiming that they have already absorbed the billion dollars already spent, but in Meta's defense, inflation really has to do with everything, including development and manufacturing cost.
But of course, this came a few hours before Meta confirmed to have actually made $7 billion in profit despite claiming the massive spending on AR/VR and the whole Metaverse.
Keep in mind that this 33% cost rise STILL has the Oculus Quest 2 as a "cheap" way to play VR games in comparison with the competition and that is bad news because the entry level just got more expensive.
