A long journey for the still semi-silent crisis that Dark Souls for PC, mainly Dark Souls 3's server went through but FromSoftware has some good news so that the Japanese studio can now focus on new games (apparently one is almost done).
After three months indicating that they were in the process of restoring Dark Souls's server, FromSoftware confirmed and welcomed Dark Souls 3 PC gamer back today and while asking patience for Dark Souls and Dark Souls 2 gamers as those games, restoration is underway.
To recap, FromSoftware received a message from an ethical hacker early 2022, that he identified a security flaw on their servers.
While it wasn’t acknowledged publicly, the noise within the Dark Souls and ethical hacking community is that the hacker could upload a remote code exploit that was sneaked into the game servers that literally affects PC users and can parse user’s PC running programs and specs.
The last thing about the situation is that the security flaw was more horrible than that and FromSoftware did not want to risk it and probably it might never be revealed as some people can get some ideas.
