Anti-Cheat became a need for honest players and developers that needs a "help" on having hackers or toxic players on true competitiveness outside a game, but historically, badly implemented and Denuvo happens to be this example.
Irdeto announced late last week that their anti-cheat and DRM Denuvo, will also cover Nintendo Switch games, but ironically cheating is not the only thing that it will be reaching.
As per their press release:
"Nintendo consoles have long suffered from piracy issues and the Switch is no different. Even if a game is protected against piracy on its PC version, the released version on Switch can be emulated from day one and played on PC, therefore bypassing the strong protections offered on the PC version. This can happen with any of the numerous games available on Switch.
By preventing piracy on Switch while blocking unauthorized emulations on PC, studios are able to increase their revenue during the game launch window, which is the most important period in regard to monetization. The Nintendo Switch Emulator Protection will ensure that anyone wishing to play the game has to buy a legitimate copy."
The situation is that Denuvo does not have a big "friendship" with gaming communities as their anticheat tactics are invasive, most noticeable on PC as the functionalities take resources from computers and affect game performance.
Obviously some people are worried that if game publishers and developers began to add Denuvo on Switch games, might have some more stress on the Nintendo portable/console hybrid as the Tegra processor that is acting as its heart, is already feeling the age.
