It is the last day of August and boy, gaming news does not stop and it is time again to talk about corporate gaming news with recents acquisition within members of the industry and this include Quantic Dream and FromSoftware.
Starting with Quantic Dream, developers of games like Heavy Rain and Detroit: Become Human, was acquired by Chinese gaming company NetEase.
The purchase came after NetEase began investing in Quantic Dream 3 years ago and while no price or reasons were shared, NetEase confirmed that Quantic Dream will "continue to operate independently, focusing on creating and publishing its video games on all platforms.
Meanwhile, is not news that Sony and chinese conglomerate Tencent Games have stake on FromSoftware, developers of Dark Souls and Elden Ring, they did increase their presence with Sony now owning 14.09% of the company while Tencent, via its Sixjoy subsidiary, now owns 16.25%.
FromSoftware stated that they acknowledge each one's capacity to reach markets (mobile for Tencent Games and gaming content distribution for Sony) and it is clear that the Japanese studios will capitalize despite losing more self-ownership.
