While the leadership of Netflix in the television and movies streaming scene is already taking its toll itself, gaming has been a surprising business that the entertainment giant have been swimming in and now “having shattered those waters” in a while, Netflix is ready for the next big step.
Netflix Gaming Studio is now a reality and while the “existence” itself was implicitly acknowledged, a more explicit announcement was given today as Netflix founded its second (but true) gaming studios for the development of mobile gaming.
With this, Netflix announced that the new Netflix Gaming Studio will be physically in Helsinki, Poland and will be led by Marko Lastikka, a gaming veteran and former General Manager of Zynga, will serve as the studio director for the new Netflix Gaming studio.
Helsinki was specifically chosen because Netflix believes the best talent for mobile gaming development are located there adn this serves as an strategic move.
Until now, the Netflix Gaming Studio as part of Netflix itself, was like a publishing house to help exclusive games for Android and iOS form indies development studios and being given to Netflix subscribers, today’s announcement means that Netflix will be developing original games.
No immediate plans were announced but this is pretty much a sure thing that we might be hearing some announcement soon.
