It is difficult to say how many people confuse Free Speech on being a horrible human being against each other and unfortunately gaming is not an exception to this human behavior and the industry is taking part on the front of cleaning toxicity and now, enter the joint venture of Ubisoft and Riot Games.
In a pleasant surprise, Ubisoft and League Of Legends/Valorant creators, Riot Games, announced a partnership that will research ways of blocking toxic and harmful content from gaming chat.
With the announcement comes the ‘Zero Harm in Comms’ research initiative, which aims to create a cross-industry shared database and labeling ecosystem that gathers in-game data, which will better train AI-based preemptive moderation tools to detect and mitigate disruptive behavior.
While is not the first time that Riot Games had wanted to find a way to extinguish the bad side of gamers in voice chat, this new approach will allow both their and Ubisoft new AI’s finding and data to be shared to the gaming industry by 2024, allowing a proper standardization on voice chat content control without disrupting privacy.
Yeah, some might think that both companies having a history itself of having a toxic workplace is really “sweet”, but I believe that this is karma in action and yes, they are the ones that need to take a step forward in my opinion.
