Masahiro Sakurai has already stated that he has spent too much time with Super Smash Bros. between both the Wii U (along the 3DS) and Nintendo Switch campaign for Nintendo and that he would wind down his participation.
But there is a new development that probably puts in jeopardy future Super Smash Bros. games as Masahiro Sakurai has said that he considered semi-retired.
In an interview with Denfa Minico Gamer (translated by PushDustin), Sakurai feels healthy all right, but senses that he needs to have more weekends “taking it easy” and pretty much he is enjoying his free time.
Currently he is doing his own projects including a game design-inspired YouTube channel and has not talked about Super Smash Bros. after the entrance of Sora from Kingdom Hearts as the latest and final invited fighter for the Nintendo franchise.
What have many suggesting that this is it for Super Smash Bros. is that it is now a custom of Nintendo that there is a one Super Smash Bros. game for each generation that started with the Nintendo 64 and while Nintendo (FOR WHATEVER REASON ASSUMING IS NOT MONEY), hasn’t been ready to talk what’s next in hardware speaking and that the very same Sakurai saying that he doesn’t believe that Nintendo will continue without him.
Until then, Super Smash Bros.’s future is in a big incognito state at best.
