The time of Microsoft playing nice with Sony and its rejection of the acquisition of Activision Blizzard is over, and now, the tech giant of Redmond and creator of Xbox wants Sony to be legally challenged.

VGC highlighted a legal filing documented by FTC where Microsoft wants Sony to be subpoenaed and be legally ordered to reveal Playstation production pipeline.

The strategy here seems to have Sony to proof that it will be affected by the buyout of Activision Blizzard, mainly the Call Of Duty franchise where Playstation for years, have been a “platform focus” via an economic agreement, which Sony fears that Microsoft at long term will not renew in favor of Xbox platform.

The filing states that the evidence that needs to be submitted has to include the initial negotiations of Sony Interactive Entertainment (Playstation parent company) and Microsoft, which appears to be a benchmarking strategy and compare it to the status of the pipeline.

If granted by a court, Sony will be in a difficult position on how to explain that a company that has been historically also in a shopping spree of studios and having a “Playstation Only” mantra, can really say that acquisitions are bad.

We are already a year after Microsoft, surprisingly, announced reaching an agreement with Activision Blizzard to let themselves be bought and joining Xbox Game Studio, an unprecedented move and becoming Microsoft’s greatest buyout of its history.

Of course, some saw the move as a life-saving measure from Activision CEO Bobby Kotick, who has yet to respond to allegations of a toxic and sexualized workforce that led to the harm of some employees mentally and physically, some being on his knowledge and also, he being the center of an incident.

The acquisition is valued at $69 billion and already the United States via FTC and European Zone via their proper commission has objected to the buyout.
