I agree that both Sony and Nintendo doesn’t care about game preservation if it doesn’t mean revenues and that is what is going to happen tonight at 8PM Eastern Time when Nintendo will sunset the Nintendo eShop for the Nintendo Wii U console and the last only-portable gaming device Nintendo 3Ds without much that gamers cannot do about it.

But what does this mean?

It means that after 8:01PM of tonight (Eastern Time), you’ll no longer be able to purchase games or DLC from either eShop and much like the case of PS Store on the Playstation 3 and PSP, you’ll still be able to redownload the games you’ve already bought and play online (At best scenario, for the time being).

Unfortunately, this also means that eShop only games will disappear forever and most of them have not been remastered for a Nintendo Switch version and no more Virtual Console games on the 3DS and Wii U.

VGC estimates 1,000 games that will be lost forever if you don’t have a Wii U or a Nintendo 3Ds and want to give it a try someday.

Business perspective, YES, serves cost money and not only for maintenance and repairs cost if there is an outage, but electrical bills and AC maintenance as a server room needs to be the coolest as possible and that brings more cost of operation.

But at the end, isn’t the present and evidently immediate future of gaming being MORE attached to the Internet than ever and added to the mix, that Nintendo believes emulation is illegal no matter what.

But are they doing to “counter” emulation despite just plainly labeling it as “piracy”?

AND BY THE WAY... Today is the 12th anniversary of Nintendo 3DS North America launch, the irony of this date.
