In a surprising and unexpected recall from WB Games is that their Super Smash Bros.-like the game Multiversus it was never a full stable release, but in an uncommon way, it has announced the closure of the BETA.
In a lengthy article on the Multiversus official blog, Player First Games co-founder and game director Tony Huynh confirmed that the game will end and close its BETA June 25, 2023 will be unavailable to download the game starting April 4, 2023.
The sudden decision was claimed that it will allow both Player First Games and WB Games to develop new characters, maps and modes along with updated netcode and more matchmaking improvements.
For the wording, it seems to me that developers don't have enough resources to develop and maintain the game at the same time under the free-to-play formula.
Talking about paying, WB Games assured that the game will relaunch as a stable release in early 2024 and while it doesn’t mention if the game would continue to be free-to-play after “official launch”, all stats, progression and invested DLCs will be honored on the stable version.
The Season 2 Battle Pass will be extended through June 25, 2023, which is when the Open Beta is scheduled to close. During this time, Daily Missions will continue to be added for players to earn additional Battle Pass points, until the game is taken offline on June 25. Weekly Seasonal Milestones, however, will no longer be refreshed beginning on March 31, 2023.
Those who want to hold the game installed on their systems, Multiverse will have a limited offline access to the training room (known as The Lab) and local matches, along with access to previously earned or purchased characters and cosmetic items within those modes.
