A hard week has been and yet another bad news for the gaming industry but specifically the family of Mike Berlyn, the gaming industry veteran that created the classic Bubsy game series, has passed away.
Via Game Developer it was confirmed that Mike Berlyn, a gaming industry veteran, has passed away early this week.
Mike Berlyn is known as a talented game designer and writer who entered the game industry 1981, developing the Apple II game Oo-Topos.
Over the years, he worked at several studios, both defunct (like Sentient Software and 989 Studios) and currently active (EA, Activision) on titles such as Zork and Altered Destiny, but of course, founding his own with Brainwave Creations (co-found), Infocom and Accolade that released games during the 90’s.
His highlight during this time was the design and creation of the original 1993 Bubsy game and took a double role as designer and producer for 1996's Bubsy 3D.
In 1992, Berlyn and software engineer Marc Blank founded Blank, Berlyn & Co., which was later renamed as Bend Studio and under the 989 Studio, developed the first games of the Syphon Filter series and Days Gone.
