Besides Tencent Games, NetEase is a big gaming conglomerate in China, who recently made news after a stormy “divorce” from Activision Blizzard, disallowing more distribution of chinese versions of Blizzard Entertainment games.

Fortunately, this time is not somber news as NetWase announced that it has formed yet another new studio called Bad Brain Games.

Bad Brain Games will be located on three branches in Canada including Toronto, Ontario and Quebec instead of China, because the studio was co-founded by Ubisoft veterans including its leader Sean Crooks, who served as Watch Dogs: Legion and Driver: San Francisco producer during his tenure on Ubisoft.

"I’m honored to be leading this talented team of developers in Canada.

We’re all passionate about creating memorable and meaningful experiences. NetEase Games has given us a warm welcome, with an abundance of support and creative freedom to allow us to do what we do best. Our first game is a passion project that gives us the opportunity to truly free our brains.”

Also in the main corporate roster is a team of veteran developers who previously worked on the Watch Dogs trilogy, Far Cry 2, Driver: San Francisco, Child of Light, Just Dance, Army of Two, Splinter Cell: Conviction and Blacklist.

As a first project, Bad Brain Games is working on “an ambitious new franchise based on a story-driven, action-adventure game.”
