The hacking community might have found new heroes with the group known as Lapsus$, letting themselves be felt & known to Nvidia, Samsung, Ubisoft and now, an probably & unexpected new customer for ransomware is Microsoft.
The hacker group claims that they managed to have official servers in which they took 37GB of source code for over 250 Microsoft projects, according to the hackers. Most of the projects are reportedly for web-based and mobile apps.
The bizarre thing is that this was an easy steal as it was all part of a 7zip compressed file that takes 9GB, which is kinda reckless coming from Microsoft in my opinion if all these are facts.
Interestingly, Lapsus$ claim that the lot, particularly, contains 90% of the source code for Microsoft’s Bing Maps, and 45% of the source code for Bing itself and Cortana.
According to security researchers being asked by BleepingComputer, the hack appears to be legitimate and as of the writing of this, Microsoft seems to have carefully acknowledged that they are investigating if they really have an unauthorized intrusion.
