A big development within the workforce crisis at Activision Blizzard and one of the key things that employees of the gaming conglomerate had since Microsoft went forward to announce that it will buy it was: “Will you recognize the union”.
The truth is that, until the transaction closes, Microsoft cannot directly intefiers to the tactics that the current Activision Blizzard is using to avoid employees being unionized under the CWA umbrella and be known as Game Workers Alliance.
Legally, a company MUST allow employees to go to a democratic process when an union attempt is going on BUT, they can make a counter campaign urging employees not to union.
But now, there should be a sigh of relief within employees, particularly Raven Software where the battlefront has been strong if Activision Blizzard itself is a Warzone (pun intended here), as Microsoft has said that it "will not stand in the way" of unionization under Activision Blizzard should the publisher decide to support one.
In simple terms, it means that if the CWA/GWA manage to win the majority of votes to unionize and be recognized by regulators, it will be recognized when Activision Blizzard passes to become another high profile member of the Xbox Game Studio family.
