Once again I am taking the risk of writing about rumored reports, but Bloomberg has proven that anything from technology and gaming that starts as a strong rumor, ends up being true or at least has the notion that “might not happen but the idea is being worked”.

This time is Twitch and by the time I am writing this, probably you have seen reaction on social media.

According to Bloomberg, Twitch is planning to jumpstart a test program with the goal of making some big changes to both the Affiliate and the Partners program but the latter will be the most impacted.

Beginning this summer (if it even gets a green light as there is a possibility that it might not happen at all), we shall see an increase on ads during stream as Twitch plans to incentivize Affiliate and Partners to allow more ads time on their session in an exchange for more benefits which currently are not known.

Additionally, potential Partners would be also participating in a program where all revenue due the content produced as Partner will be from 70% for the streamer and 30% to Twitch, cut to 50% Twitch - 50% Streamer and some of the leverage that Twitch offer in exchange, is that the streamer is not forced to go live with Twitch exclusively and can jump right in to another platform or simulcast (stream at two or more platform at the same time).

The problem is that Twitch is assuming that Partners streamers can make-up the 20% difference elswehere, but not every streamer that are successful in Twitch is necessarily successful on other platforms and ONE GREAT example is Ninja, as he NEVER capitalized his peak of followers and subscribers when he jumped to Mixer and was the most paid streamer in the network once owned (and purged) by Microsoft.

It has been known for a while that Amazon have been wanting a big return on the $970 million buyout of Twitch and designing forms on adding advertising and now trying to reform the Partner program are signal that Twitch is becoming more of a burden than an asset and it is not the first attempt on redesign the Partner program to have more profits as goal.
