The past generation that ended in late 2020, marked the end of the resurgence that Nintendo gained with the Nintendo Switch after a difficult era with the Wii U unable to capitalize with what the original Wii started.
But questions are building up as current-gen is in its second year and still Nintendo offers the Nintendo Switch and to catch up with competition, Nintendo has embraced cloud gaming, not everybody's cup of tea but seems is not enough and add to the mix that there is NO news on what’s next after Nintendo Switch.
This was in mind in this week’s investor conference in which Nintendo’s board, including president Shuntaro Furukawa, had to acknowledge that things will begin to slow down and not only because of the semiconductor shortage crisis.
Video Games Chronicles translated the investor’s call and practically Furuwaka indicated that the main purpose now is to embrace the gamers with Nintendo Switch along with keeping supporting the system and launching games as a first step to transition to the next generation.
It was surprising that Nintendo’s president mentioned that they were on in the “middle phase” of its lifecycle without specifying how the next-gen system research and development is far or close to testing and launching, but any attempt to go a step further, would likely incorporate the same integrated hardware-software approach as seen in the Nintendo Switch.
So practically, I can say that we might be hearing (ONCE AGAIN) about a Nintendo Switch Pro or perhaps now we can start calling it Nintendo Switch 2.
But doing a raw and direct math as this “middle cycle”...Does Nintendo really expect their next-gen console probably in the days that we can begin talking about Playstation 6 and the next Xbox S/X console?
