Playstation is gaining more direct footprint in the eSport community as the purchase of stake in EVO early this year was not enough. Because parent company Sony has confirmed that it has bought the eSport tournament hosting Repeat GG.
For those who don't know, Repeat GG is a platform that was created in the mind of everyone to play and organize their event and eSport tournament, regardless of economic status, enabling the opportunity for free entry to tournaments.
Primarily they focused on the eSport tournament of Fortnite, League Of Legends, DOTA 2, PUBG and Call Of Duty and probably the 60% of this selection could make sense for Sony for the sake of Playstation and also increasing the eSport presence in an official way.
Repeat GG announced on their official blog that the transaction will mean that in a long term, the platform will gain more resources and will finally have the capacity to support more games in the future and maintaining autonomy, which means that this purchase does not mean that the eSport organizing aspect of the service will be Playstation exclusive.
No pricing details or when to expect the transaction will close were shared at this time.
