Yep, it is the turn of Nintendo to say how things were in the past trimester and while things are not looking so good for Nintendo Switch entering its 6th year of life, there is a big record broken.
Nintendo published its Q3 2023 result having its net sales were down 1.9% at 1295 billion yen and net profit down 5.8% at 356.2 billion yen, respectively an equivalent of $98.2 million and $26.7 million in US dollar.
Also the Nintendo Switch sales were lower than expected as this quarter includes the holidays and it was reported that Nintendo managed to sell 114 million units since 2017.
The symbolic good news is that the sales reports means that the Nintendo Switch already broke the Gameboy family sales record (excluding Gameboy Advance) which ended with 118.9 million units in the late 90’s.
Also this number means that Nintendo has a chance to beat Playstation 2 sales, Sony’s best selling console historically as the PS2 sales ended officially with 155 million of unit
But unfortunately Nintendo has lowered its forecast for the second quarter in a row as now it expects to sell 18 million consoles by the end of March, it said, which is down from the 19 million predicted in the previous quarter, and 21 million before that. It also lowered its forecast for its full-year earnings.
This comes after reportedly, Nintendo boosted production of the Nintendo Switch last month in expectation for the release of some most-anticipated release, including their own with The Legends Of Zelda: Tears Of The Kingdom.
Finally in the software side, Nintendo reported that 994 million games shipped since it launched in 2017 up to the end of the quarter and highlighted:
- Mario Kart 8 Deluxe – 52m (+3.6m)
- Animal Crossing: New Horizons – 41.59m (+1.42m)
- Super Smash Bros. Ultimate – 30.44m (+0.91m)
- Legend of Zelda: Breath of the Wild – 29m (+1.21m)
- Pokemon Sword/Shield – 25.68m (+0.31m)
- Super Mario Odyssey – 25.12m (+0.68m)
- Pokémon Scarlet & Violet – 20.61m (New)
- Super Mario Party – 18.79m (+0.44m)
